I had to approve this comment just because it is the best piece of spam I have ever received! In a clever move, it appears the individual behind it lifted a comment from some story about the non-Ground Zero Mosque story instead of the usual “This information is great and helped me on my homework assignment!” Too bad it doesn’t address the blog post it’s attached to on my page and was hawking some sort of porn site. Props though. Props.

And stop using that lame leftist straw man to try to justify it. No one has told the Muslims that they can’t build a mosque. Those of us who oppose are saying “don’t do it THERE.” There are zoning ordinances across the nation that dictate where various businesses and other organizations can build. This is no different. There has already been discussion in NY about allowing this bunch to put the mosque somewhere else. But now that Obama has (again) stuck his nose in where it doesn’t belong, things are escalating out of control.

There will be rationing true, but again, there is already rationing. The only difference is that more of the wealthy will face what the middle class and the poor already face everyday. It’s not possible to have health care without rationing, it’s just a question of on what basis you will ration care. The good news is that the vast majority of the rest of the developed world provides health care to a greater proportion of their citizens that the U.S. does, and does so for less money and with better results. No guarantee that it will work that way here, but it IS possible. It happens every day in the rest of the world.

Some interesting points there Terry. I would ask you a few questions though. First of all, what is a socialist and what makes being one a bad thing? I’m going to assume that you believe any government program that takes wealth/property from citizens against there will and then redistributes that wealth or property to other citizens is “socialist.” In that case however, you have left the military out of your polemic, as there is no clearer case of wealth redistribution than the U.S. Military. Domestically, it disproportionately benefits the very wealthy, while it often benefits the poor abroad. What should be done with the Pentagon then?

In fact, it really sounds like your taking an anarchist point of view, as ALL forms of effective modern governance will include some degree of wealth redistribution.

I think it’s worth considering, at the least, a complete overhaul of how social security works. I do believe your views on that put you far right of the majority of the Tea Party, btw.

Are you willing to except the consequences of fully privatizing police and fire services? You do realize that many, many people would be victimized or killed by fire because they lived in communities that were unprofitable for private services to protect. If you happen to be a social conservative at all, you could kiss any hopes of fighting abortion, prostitution or drug us in poor communities good bye. None of that might seem problematic at first, but remember that things do tend to boil over from poorer communities. Imagine: the vast majority of Baltimore on fire because they have no fire services. Will the richer areas be safe with their private fire departments? Or will the resulting firestorm be so huge as to overwhelm any response that waited until only the rich were affected?

I think most average people, right an left, would be all for ending corporate and farm welfare if it were explained to them plainly.

Interesting. Thanks for that, however that is not the limit of my appreciation. I am afflicted with color blindness (deuteranopia in my case). I mostly use Safari browser (unsure if that changes anything), and far too many websites are hard to comprehend on account of a poor range of colors used. In your case, as the selection of colors is fine, the site is amazingly tidy and easy to read.

I am tired of the complaining. All the current governments,local through federal are socialist. It’s time we get everyone off the dole. Abolish social security, medicare, the police and fire department ect. I can protect myself and I am tired of paying for those who can’t. If people are honest, they will admit that the contributions to social security fall far short of what they recieve, the same holds true for medicare. People on these programs support socialism. Have private companies provide police and fire protection that individuals contract for. If you want government to provide these services then your a socialist. Or maybe your the type of person who wants the government to provide the programs you want and the rest of the programs are a waste or socialist. If you want medicare than you should be paying at least 500.00 a month into the program. For social security, what every you pay monthly into the program is what you get when you retire. 100.00 a month equals 100.00 a month. If you payed for thirty, then you get thirty year. If you payed one year than you get one year. It’s also time to stop paying money out of social security for programs other than social security. Is also time to get rid of corporate and all forms of farm welfare.
