Two years ago, I clicked on a google advertisement that ran across the top of my gmail account. It read “Find out the TRUTH about Barack Obama.” OK, sounds interesting, I thought. I clicked on the link and was taken to a page with an entry field for my email address; the “truth” would be emailed to me. The result, was that I was signed up for an email newsletter from www.HumanEvents.com, the self declared “Headquarters of the Conservative Underground.”

Hardly a new phenomenon, Human Events is the electronic incarnation of a conservative rag that’s been around since 1944 (they claim to be have been Ronald Reagan’s favorite newspaper). With columnists such as Pat Buchanan, Ann Coulter, Newt Gingrich and Chuck Norris, their emails and articles often read like pure “talking points” from the Republican National Committee. Even better, they also send me advertisements from political action groups and for wacky products designed to cure aging.

As a progressive (read: “latte and Chardonnay sipping California liberal pinko”), I found my self writing responses to many of these ads, articles and the wonderfully ignorant and fringy comments by the loyal followers of Human Events (if you want to know what the REAL base of the Republican party thinks, you have to check out the comments). After awhile, I decided that I just couldn’t deprive the world of this stuff any longer; not that my writing is that great, it’s just that these folks are so easy to lampoon, it could be done by a baboon with a quill up his ass. It’s rather easy to let these folks hang themselves and that’s what this site is all about. Tune in for frequent updates from the “conservative underground” of humanevents.com and other conservative media outlets and learn just what the people are thinking, saying and doing under the guise of “patriotism.”
